What are Men's Sheds?

Men's Sheds are welcoming community spaces where men can connect, share skills, and work on projects together. Each Shed is unique, but all focus on friendship, purpose, and staying well.

Why they matter

Many men find it hard to talk about what's on their mind. This can lead to loneliness, stress, or health problems. Life changes like retirement, illness, or family breakdown can also be hard to face alone.

Men’s Sheds offer a welcoming space to work on a project, chat over a cup of tea, or just enjoy being around others. For many, it feels more natural to talk side by side, or 'shoulder to shoulder', rather than face to face. It’s all about mateship, connection, and support.

How to find a Shed near you

You can find a local Shed through the Australian Men’s Shed Association.

What's the Australian Men’s Shed Association?

The Australian Men’s Shed Association supports over 1,200 Men’s, Women’s, and Community Sheds across Australia. It’s one of the country’s largest male-focused community development organisations.

The Showgrounds Community Men’s Shed Photography Group is a great example of what Men’s Sheds can offer. It’s a space to be creative, build friendships, and keep learning. The group gives members a renewed sense of purpose after retirement. They share ideas, develop photography skills, and support each other along the way.
